So this will be the last post on this blog. This blog has severed me well, but at the same time it just can't keep up with what I need it to do. So I finally got a new blog that well go with my new look and my new website, which should go live in the next 2 weeks or so. Sorry to say that in switching to the new blog some how blogger went all crazy and lost almost all of the pictures to most of the posts on this blog. The good news is that all the slideshow links on this blog still work!!

On June 28th I photographed Kendall and Lucas’s awesome wedding over at Zephyr Cove Resort. I had such a blast shooting their engagement shoot that I knew the wedding day was going to be even better and it was!!! The day before I was holding back the tears at my friends wedding and then during Lucas’s speech I was holding them back again. My gosh, two days in a row. When two people are sooooo in love like Kendall and Lucas it makes my job really easy. Thanks you guys!! Also I have to say that Kendall and Lucas win my award for the best first dance. It was amazing and I think they’re going to hold onto this award for a long time!!!

Anika & Luke

Hello, I’m still alive and doing great!!! Things are finally starting to slow down a little on the shooting end and now it’s time to catch up on the processing side of all the shoots I’ve been doing.

On June 27th I shot Anika and Luke’s wedding over at Edgewood golf course. I really don’t know where to begin on this special wedding. I’ve know Anika since high school and have been friends with Luke since I was 3 years old. So it was surreal to photograph their wedding and to be apart of one of the biggest days of their lives. The wedding turned out to be prefect and went off without a glitch. The only thing was that in the afternoon there was some smoke for all the fires up here in Nor Cal. The smoke made for one fabulous sunset though and some bad a$$ photos. I’ve never cried at a wedding yet, but this one I had to hold back the tears in order to keep on capturing all of the moments that were happing in front of my lens. Anika and Luke you guys are sooooo in love and will live a long wonderful life together.

Two Saturday ago I got to 2nd shoot for Denise Neufeld. I had such a great time!!! The couple getting married were soooo nice and the location was also great. It was right on the Truckee River at the River Ranch. It's so fun for me to 2nd shoot, I have no worries and can just try new stuff with my camera. I just pick some quick photos for this post because I'm still super busy. I wanted to blog this because if I didn't do it now I don't think I would've done it. I have one wedding tomorrow and another one on Saturday, so I won't be blogging again until next week sometime.

This past Friday I shot an intimate wedding, which turned out to be super fun!!! Kate and Mike got married down at Lakeside Beach and then after tying the knot we got to go on a fun boat ride. The last couple of weddings that I’ve done I’ve been lucky enough to shoot some photos at sunset. So I was stoked to be able to do that again and get some great shots!!! Congratulations you guys!!!!

I photographed Lynette and David’s fantastic wedding on Sunday June 8th down in Grass Valley CA. Lynette and David are such nice easygoing people. Also all of their friends and family were so nice too so it made it that much easier to get some great shots. It was an early wedding, which was good because then we had tons of time to get some beautiful photos after the reception. We ended up going over to the Empire Mine in Grass Valley for some photos and then drove up to Sand Harbor in Lake Tahoe for some sunset photos. I have to say that both sides of their families are sooooo musically talented. During the ceremony and reception it seemed like almost every family member either sang or played an instrument. It was really fun to watch them all perform.

On June 7th I photographed Jill and Ben's amazing wedding over at Edgewood Golf Coruse here in Lake Tahoe. This fabulous wedding was put together by Aimee Chesebrough over at Sierra Weddings. If you're thinking of hiring a wedding planner for your wedding, you should definitely hit up the girls over at Sierra Weddings!!! I had such a blast photographing Jill and Ben's wedding all day long!!! Jill and Ben are some of the nicest people that I've ever met, which made it soooo easy to take pictures of them. This was the prefect wedding to start my summer with!!!!

I just found this out today that tomorrow June 7th is free fishing day in California. I love to fish and I would be out there tomorrow fishing it up, but I have a wonderful wedding to shoot. Last week we had thunderstorms two days in a row in, which means good sunsets. They weren't that colorful, but both sunsets had super cool God beams coming out of the clouds. I never get tired of taking photos of this wonderful Lake and hanging out watching the sunset. Here are some photos of the sunsets!!! Enjoy :-)

This past Saturday I had a blast photographing Kathy and Peter's engagement shoot!!!! We headed over to the Tallac Historical site to take some photos by the shore and then took a quick drive over to Fallen Leaf Lake. I love shooting over in that area because there are some many great locations within a short drive of each other. It was super fun to hang out with Kathy and Peter before their big day on the 5th of July. They had me laughing the whole time and has you can see by the photos I had them laughing too ;-)

Christine and I went down to Monterey 2 weeks ago for my cousins Mari's college graduation from Cal State Monterey. Way to go Mari!!!!! We had a super good time in Monterey celebrating her graduation and doing some site seeing. I haven't been to Monterey since I was in the 4th or 5th grade, so it was great to be there again. I remember as a kid I loved it when we went to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and I still love it now!!!! Here are some photos of the trip.

This last Saturday Christine, her parents and I went down to the California state fair grounds to walk for the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. It’s really amazing to see how many people showed up!! It had to have been way over 10,000 people there walking and some running. We only did the 1-mile walk, but next year will do the 5k. Here are some photos that I took while I was down in Mammoth. These photos were all taken with my tilt/shift lens while I was out and about fishing. Every afternoon the thunder clouds would come up, so I couldn't pass up the chance to take some photos.

It's so hard to take a self-portrait with a tilt/shift lens and I was super stoked on this one!!! I'm not a vain person, but when I was in community college we had to take self-portraits for every class and I hated it. Now I love seeing what I can come up with!!!

I was down in Mammoth the last couple of days skiing it up for the last time of the season and also doing some fishing. It was super nice the first two days of skiing and then the last day it was super windy with thunder storms, so I ended up just driving home. Bye Bye snow see ya next year. All of the photos are taken on my point and shoot camera.

Kendall & Lucas Engagement Sessioin

This last Saturday Christine and I had a blast shooting Kendall and Lucas’s engagement shoot all over South Lake Tahoe. When I went to Brooks we always used some kind of lighting in are photos. I haven’t done any of this in a long time and I was able to break out my ring flash and also do some off camera lighting. It was so much fun doing this again!!!! Kendall and Lucas were a riot to photograph and it was fun to hike all around to get some great shots. Their wedding is coming up in June and can’t wait for the big day. So I’ve been trying to blog for the past day and blogger has been freaking out on me and not letting me publish through my FTP onto my sever. For all of you that didn’t understand that, it means that I couldn’t upload anything onto my blog. Some how all of a sudden I was messing around with stuff today and now it finally works. Don't ask me what I did, but it works now and that's all that counts.
I was down in So Cal last week for a great portrait workshop called The Modern Portrait. I learned soooo much and I know that it’s going to help my portrait business a ton!!! While I was down there I was able to photograph my cousin’s baby. Alia is now 5 months old and has grow a ton since the last time I saw her. WPPI & Goldfield, NV

So I'm finally back home!!! I went down to Vegas for WPPI, which was super fun and I learned sooooo much. Then I was home for around a day in half. Then Christine and I went to San Francisco for a couple of days and then spent some time up here in Tahoe hanging out and then back to Sac. More posts to come from the super fun time we had relaxing. So on my way down hwy 95 to Vegas I went though this living ghost town called Goldfield out in the middle of Nevada. So on my way back from Vegas I stopped and took photos for around an hour or so. I shot all of the photos with my 24mm tilt/shift lens. Even the rabbits foot shot, I just didn't tweak out the lens. So enjoy the photos of the wonderful place.

Anika & Luke Engagement Part 2

Hello!!! I just got back last night from WPPI and learned so much. The afternoon before I left for WPPI I photographed the second part of Anika and Luke’s engagement session. It had been nice weather for about a week or so and then the day before and during the session it was super cold and snowed. That’s all right though they were troopers and it made for some crazy cool photos. I think that shooting in bad weather creates great drama for the photos. So last Sunday while down in Sac Christine and I went on a photo field trip to the California state capital. I think it’s good for me to go out and have some fun shooting just random stuff once in a while. It forces me to be creative which in the end helps me in my wedding and portrait work. So here are some of the photos that I took and some of Christine’s photos too.

I love this shot!! I shot this from my hip, so they wouldn't know that I was taking their photo. I shot this with my tilt shift lens, so I was just amazed that it actually came out!!

Powder Fun With Old Friends

At the end of February some of my friends from So Cal and Nor Cal came to visit the snow and me. It didn’t snow that much in February, but they hit it right and showed up the same day as a big storm hit Tahoe. We ended up getting 4-6 ft during a three-day period. We had so much fun building a jump in the storm and coming back three days later to hit it again in the sun. I was so stoked about learning how to do 360’s again and landed one on my first try. So here are some photos of the fun in the powder.

Avalon's 2nd Session

While I was down at my cousin’s house I was also able to photograph Avalon for her 2nd session for her year in the life session. The last time I photographed Avalon she was only 9 days old and now she is almost 2 ½ months. She is so big now and is still one of the cutest babies around. Avalon is one of the mellowest babies I’ve seen to date, which is good for my cousin, since they have Waylon running around. Hello there!!! I’m still alive I’ve just been busy with friends visiting me and then going down to So Cal to do my taxes. While I was down in So Cal I was able to photograph Waylon my #1 baby model. Waylon just had his 2-year-old birthday, so I was stoked to photograph another stage in the little man’s life. Waylon is growing up so quickly and is one big ball of energy. I don’t know how my cousin keeps up with. Can’t wait come back Waylon and play around with the super fort. Click here for the slideshow.

Amgen tour de California 2008

When Christine and I got back from Mammoth I ended up staying in Sacramento to photograph the 2nd stage of the Amgen tour de California. They started in Santa Rosa and end the stage in Sacramento with a 4 lap circuit around the capital. The stage was 115.8 miles long and they got to ride most of it in the rain. I was so stoked to see all the top pros in the world in person riding their bikes. Most of these teams and riders ride in all the top races like the Tour de France. The first place I was taking photos at was the town of Winters and then I drove as quickly as I could without breaking any laws to Sacramento to take the final photos of the race.

Here's a photo of all the people I got to hang out with for 2 hours in Winters while waiting for the riders.

I forgot this riders name, but he had an 8 minute lead on the racers when he came by us. His lead didn't last though.

When the rest of the racers got to Winters I was taking some photos in one spot and then was running to another spot to take some more photos when all of sudden one of the riders crashed right in front of me!!!

The rider was Tom Danielson who is a big name US rider who use to ride for the Discovery Team.

Now at the capitol in Sacramento. If you look closely you can see George Hincapie on the right of the front rider. He's also a big US pro who use to ride for the Discovery Team.

Mark Cavendish sprinted away with a big lead!! I love this photo, it shows the pain of riding almost 115 miles and then giving it your all to try and win.

Mark Cavendish ended up getting caught and placed 4th, while Tom Boonen won the race.

I had a great time a will be back next year for sure. For all of you that live in So Cal the race ends this Sunday in Pasadena. If you love to bike ride I would say this is a must see event.

Anika & Luke Engagement Mammoth, CA

As I promised here is Anika and Luke’s Engagement photos from Mammoth. This is part 1 of their engagement shoot; I’ll be doing the second part back up in Reno soon. Wow, well I’ve been friends with Luke since I was 3 years old and have known Anika since Jr. High. I’m so stoked to be shooting their wedding up here in Tahoe in June; it’s going to be a blast!!! Luke and I use to ski race together, so I thought it would be a cool idea to do part of their engagement shoot at a ski resort. I had a blast shooting the engagement shoot. I just got back from Mammoth last night. I was down there taking a break and skiing it up. I was also down there to do part of my good friend’s engagement shoot for his wedding that I’ll be shooting in June. I’ll post some of the engagement photos soon. The weather was super nice and the snow was even better. Here are some photos that I took with my point & shoot camera, while skiing around.

My last run of the day on Friday was "Hole In The Wall" which is just out of bounds at Mammoth and is super fun as you can see by the photos. It's not everyday that you get to ski through an old lava tube.

I've started to shoot with a Holga camera again for fun. A Holga is a toy camera that shoots on medium format film. There's no thinking involved at all, you just point the camera at something and then take the picture. But with this camera if you don't pay attention you can make double exposures and that is what happened to me when I finally got my film developed. Which turned out to be a good mistake. One was of a Lake Tahoe sunset and the other one was of Waylon my #1 baby model. So as they say sometimes mistakes are good.

This one wasn't a mistake, but Waylon looks so cute in the photo I had to post it up.

Brandi & Josh

This past Saturday I was down in Santa Barbara to photograph Brandi and Josh’s wedding over the hill at the Crossroads Estate/Firestone Vineyards. On my way down there it was raining, the day before it was raining and then finally no rain on the wedding day!! A storm was moving in though, so I was just praying that it didn’t start raining until after I was done talking photos of them. I was so stoked to be able to take them outside to take photos!! About 10 minutes after we were done with the photos and back inside it started to rain. We all lucked out and ended up getting so really great shots!!! The whole day Brandi and Josh were laughing and smiling, you could really see the love that they have for each other. Another great thing about this wedding is that I got to have my good buddy Tim Halberg second shoot with me. Tim and I started out at Brooks together and stayed friends since. Christina & Matthew Lubbes

On Sunday I shot my first wedding of 2008 and it was one to remember. It was a Tahoe winter wedding and Mother Nature was in full force with a snowstorm. Christina and Matt are huge Charger fans so while they were getting ready the game was playing on all the TV’s at both the guys and girl’s cabins. Unfortunately the Chargers didn’t end up winning. But Christina and Matt won my trooper award for taking photos out in a snowstorm in 20-degree temps. I think Christina and Matt will hold on to this award for a long time unless someone else decides to have their wedding photos taken in crazier snowstorm. All I know is that when we were done I couldn’t feel my hands for a while, but it was well worth it!!! Thanks Christina and Matt I had blast!!! Click here for the slideshow.

Waylon Having Fun

Here are some photos that I took of Waylon when I was down in San Clemente taking photos of his new sister Avalon. Waylon is always a riot to take photos of he's just so crazy fun. Last time I was down there he would only let me push him around in his car and I had take pictures of him at the same time. Thank God for wide angle lens!! Well this time I ended up holding a book for him in one hand and taking pictures with the other. So he could eat his O's and read at the same time. This kid is living the high life!! On January 2nd I had the privilege of photographing the Wong family over at Sand Harbor. For the past couple of years they've come up and stayed in Incline Village for New Years. Well this time they decided to get a family portrait done. It was a great winter day up here in Tahoe and I had a blast. They got lucky with the weather because two days later the big storm rolled in. Here are just a couple of photos from the session. Powder Day At Kirkwood

So today was only my 3rd day of the season and it was a great one. It ranks up there with one of the best powder days I've had at Kirkwood. I've been sick so I couldn't go out storm riding the past couple of days. So I've been sitting inside going crazy while the snow came out of the sky. We got about 5 feet here at lake level, but out at Kirkwood they got up to 11 feet of snow. Today was the day when the sky's finally cleared up and they opened up all of Kirkwood. This photo was taken with my I-Phone, right before I dropped into ski that run on the right. Which you can see I got first tracks and it was great. The season is finally in full swing so come on up and have some fun!!!

On 12/21/07 baby Avalon was born into this beautiful world and only 9 days later I had the privilege of photographing her. Avalon is my cousin’s 2nd child and this is the first of many sessions that I will be doing for my baby’s first year package that I offer. Avalon is the youngest baby that I’ve photographed to date at only 9 days old. She was so small and slept a ton while I was there, as they say girls need their beauty sleep. I can already tell that Avalon is going to end up being a beautiful girl, just like how her bother as turned out to be one handsome boy. I was down in Oceanside, Ca on 10th and 11th for a photography workshop. It was put on by the Image Is Found, which is run by Nate and Jaclyn Kaiser. They are super talented wedding and portrait photographers. I learned so much in such a short amount of time and I’m already starting to apply things that I learned to my own biz. I also feel pumped and ready to shoot. I can’t wait for my two weddings that I have in January. If you’re a portrait or wedding photographer I would go to one of their Shoot Shops in a heart beat. First Day Of The Season

So today was my first day of the ski season. It only snowed a couple of inches at my place, but up on the hill it snowed about a foot. So I went up to Sierra at Tahoe and skied for 2 hours. My legs were like jell-o by then and it was time to go back home to do some work. It was super fun and I got to ride some powder which is always good on your first day. Here are a couple photos that I took with my I-Phone.

On the same day that I photographed baby Jake I also got to photograph my cousin's new born baby girl Alia, which was also 3 1/2 weeks old. This was my first time seeing Alia and she is just as beautiful in person as she is in all the photos that I have seen on my Aunt's blog. I love taking photos when babies are this young because they grow so quick from week to week at this stage of their life. I spent Thanksgiving down at my cousin’s house in Orinda, Ca and had dinner over at their friend’s house, which was spectacular. I got to spend a couple of days down there relaxing and taking photos of their two girls Avery and Campbell. Yes, they are sisters and from the same parents, you’ll understand once you see the photos. I love to photograph kids just being themselves; it makes for some great photos and brings the true nature of their personality out. We had a couple meltdowns during the X-mas card shoot but with the help of Mom we pulled it off. I never knew that threatening kids with calling up Santa Claus to tell him that they’ve been bad could turn them into angels so quick. I have to remember that one and put the big man on my speed dial list. I also got to photograph the girls getting their haircut at a kid salon. Click here to see the slideshow.

I Got Published!!!!!!

So today was a good day. Sacramento Magazine launched a new wedding magazine called Our Wedding. They're having a big party down in Sac tonight for the launch, but I couldn't go do to moving into a new place and being busy with work. But I'm soooo stoked they used one of my images for one of their articles in the magazine on Tahoe destination weddings. I was even more stoked when I went to the site tonight to see that they also used the photo for the website. I can't wait to get my hands on a copy of the magazine. I've been published before in magazines when I use to photograph snowboarding back in the day. But this is just so cool. When I started my own wedding biz I thought that I would never get published because I was just the new guy and everybody else rocked the house. But only 7 months later I did something that I never thought I would ever do in my wedding career. Rosie's Senior Portraits

I hope that all of you had a Happy Thanksgiving!! Well the last photo shoot that I did when I was down in So Cal a couple of weeks ago was Rosie's senior portraits. We headed over to the UCLA conference center in Lake Arrowhead to do the shoot. It was a beautiful fall day and the afternoon light made for some wonderful photos. This was my second ever senior portrait shoot and I would have to say that I actually like these kinds of shoots. So if you or somebody you know needs some senior portraits give me a ring.

When I was down in San Clemente I was able to hang out and stay at my cousin Anna’s house. So I was able to photograph my #1 baby model, Waylon. He is growing leaps and bounds these days so it was great to take some photos at another stage of his life. He was a little fussy because his baby molar teeth are coming in, but Waylon is always game for a photo shoot and playing around. Anna and Aaron you guys are the best!! Yes, I’m still alive and doing fine. I was down in So Cal for some jobs, a much-needed break and doing some belated b-day celebrating. While I was down in So Cal I got to go to San Clemente and photograph the Klein family. I had a super good time photographing their two adorable boys!! They had the coolest book in the world for their oldest son. You could put your face up to this book and become a farm animal. I wish I had a book like that when I was growing up. Photo Fun???

So on Saturday afternoon I took a photo field trip out to the Monitor pass area, which is pretty much out in middle of nowhere. I’ve ridden by road bike up the pass a couple of times and during one of these trips I noticed this crazy old rusted thing off the side of the road down in a canyon. So I finally went back to see what it was and take some photos. The thing was a Pennsylvania crusher from the Pennsylvania Crusher Company. I looked it up online and it’s a rock-crushing machine. That area is an old mining area, so who knows how old and how long its been out there. I trucked out my strobe kit to play around with some lighting. It was fun but hiking with a 25pound backpack and then carrying around 50 pounds of lighting gear is not so fun. After this I went up to Heenan Lake, which is almost at the top of Monitor pass to take some photos of the old dam house. It was really scary going out onto the old walkway with my gear and being over the water at the same time. Ok enough writing, so here are the photos.

On Saturday I photographed Cami and Ed’s wedding up at the The Ridge Resort. Cami and the girls started the day out at Sessions Salon getting their hair all done up. They were going to have the ceremony outside but it was too windy, so it ended up being inside. They were such troopers about and the day still turned out great. With the wind gods watching we were able to go outside and get some photos. Even though the winds were calm it was super cold. I think it was somewhere around 29 degrees. Sitting in the cold dark night

On Wednesday I went down to the lake shore to get some photos after the sun had set and do some night exposures. I just got a new tilt/shift lens for my camera, which for you non photo geeks it's a lens thats like a 4x5 camera with the tilt/shift movements hense the name. So I used that on most the photos so I could select the plan of foucs. It was super cold it had just got done snowing that afternoon. I wanted to get some cool night shots with the clouds moving, but after sitting in the dark and cold for about 1/2 hour and not that many clouds moving towards my part of the lake I finally went home to get warm.

This one was taken right when it started to get dark that's why there's still the orange glow.

Flower Girl

So I forgot to post this photo with Jen and Tim's wedding post. I was photographing the ceremony and had just got done taking some photos and still hand my eye up to the camera. When out of the corner of my other eye I saw the flower girl start to fumble around with the brides bouquet. So then I just strated to shoot like crazy knowing the monment might pass me by. After it was all over no one really noticed what she did and I got the shot. If you click on the photo to make it bigger you can see the look of terror on her face.

Right before I left Santa Barbara I photographed Brandi and Josh’s engagement shoot. It was super fun and we shot the session on the other side of their street, which is a park and then the beach. The whole time they were smiling and laughing, which made for some great photos. Their dog Daisy came along too to join in on the fun. Last Saturday I photographed Jennifer and Tim’s beautiful wedding in Santa Barbara. Jennifer and Tim decided to see each other before the wedding so they could get some pictures taken at a friends house which is right on the beach. I’m glad they made this choice because the location was off the hook!!! The ceremony was held at Elings Park, which was also a beautiful spot, with views of the ocean and Santa Barbara. Ok so it’s been along time since I’ve blogged. I’ve been super busy and was down in So Cal all last week for a wedding in Santa Barbara and a kids portrait shoot in Seal Beach. I will be blogging about those soon. I finally hit the wall I got sick when I was down in So Cal and toughed it through the wedding, but today I woke up and couldn’t talk!! This is the first time in my life that I’ve lost my voice.

The day before I left for So Cal I photographed Diane and Eric’s amazing wedding on Mt. Rose in an aspen grove. The day before it snowed, so it was super cold out!!! All the girls were troopers and made it through the ceremony. Luckily the aspen trees had just started to turn colors a couple of days before the wedding, so this made for some great photos. Car Show

Two weeks ago there was a car show up here in Tahoe. I love old cars and just had to go over to the show and check out some of the nice rides they had. When I showed up I really wasn't into taking the big overall pic's of the cars. So I just started to take some cool detail shots of the cars. Back in the late 40's and through out the 50's car makers put these crazy hood emblems on the hoods of their cars. Most of them are airplanes and rockets, I've heard they put them on there to make people think there car was as fast as an airplane or a rocket. What a crappy marketing idea, but I think they look very cool on these old cars. I don't think people these days would be really into having a rocket or airplane on the hood of their car.

Snow!!!

Last night right before I went to bed I looked outside and it was snowing. When I woke up this morning it had snowed a little more than an inch. About an hour later it switched over to rain and now it has all melted away at my house. The strom is breaking up now and you can see that higher up the snow stayed. We're supposed to get more tomorrow sometime. It looks like winter is showing up before fall even really starts.

This photo was taken at the end of my street. This is Mt. Tallac, the snow has filled the cross on the top part of the mountain.

On Saturday I was stoked to photograph Kim and Allen’s wedding celebration party on the west shore of Lake Tahoe. They rented this huge house right on the lake for their party. The only thing I can say about this house is WOW!! Kim and Allen are the kindest people; I felt just like one of the family and had a blast partying the night away. Oops I meant working the night away. They have the cutest baby girl named Siena. I was able to get lots of photos of her and all the other little tikes running around. Kim and Allen you guys are the best!! Thanks for all the fun!!

Well I’ve complete forgot about blogging this post. Two weeks ago I photographed my cousin’s oldest daughter’s senior portraits over at Sand Harbor Beach, which is on the Northeast side of Tahoe. This was my first time doing a senior portrait shoot and I think that I didn’t do to that bad of a job. Kirdy is a senior at Spanish Springs High, which is located in Sparks, NV. She is an awesome swimmer!!! She is the back-to-back Nevada State High School Champ at the 100yd butterfly event and will most likely win it again this year. Go Kirdy!! Kick some butt and win it again!!!

I just love to make people jump for joy at my photo shoots.

So today was the day to test my biking legs. Before today the farthest that I have gone in one ride was something like 62 miles. Well today I rode around Lake Tahoe on my road bike. It was so beautiful and at the same time a work out. From what my bike computer said it took me 3:59’22secs to ride around the lake with an average speed of 17.8 mph a max speed of 41.5 mph and a total distance of 71.12 miles. I only stopped twice once to go to the bathroom and rest for about 3 minutes and the other to fix a flat tire which took about 6 minutes. I would like to add that the 62 miles was at low elevation and not up in the 6,000-7,000 foot range. I usually don’t pace myself that well when riding but today I actually did a good job and didn’t even bonk or hit the wall. I remember as a kid my P.E. teachers always talking about the runners high and I always thought that they were on crack. But since I’ve been riding my road bike I know what they are talking about now. On these long distances you get in the zone and from time to time you almost have an outer body experience and then just ride for miles likes this without pain and just hammer it down. I hope this made sense but it’s really hard to put into words. But anyway my legs are sore now and I will be going to bed early tonight. My next task is to ride 100 miles all in one ride. I think that might have to wait until next year.

HOLY BUCK!!!!

So today after I was done working I went up to Woods Lake to do some fishing. I had been there for about a half an hour and had already caught one fish. When all of a sudden I heard the craziest noises coming from the forest behind me. It sound like Bigfoot or a bear running through the forest breaking branches off of trees and a loud running sound. So I put my fishing pole down and thought for sure a bear was going to come running out of the bushes as the sound got louder and closer. Then all of a sudden this huge buck came sprinting out of the bushes and ran right by me. When the buck ran by me it must have only been like 15-20 feet away. Then it just took a huge jump from the edge of the shore into the lake and started swimming around. It all happened so quick and scared the shit out of me that luckily I was still thinking straight and ran to my backpack to grab my point & shoot camera to snap some photos before it swam off. After it was all over I was shaking for probably 10 minutes or so since my adrenaline was going. I thought for sure it was a bear and then it turned out to be a buck that almost ran me over. I’ve never seen anything like that in my life and probably will never again. Here are some of the photos that I snapped off.

Sam's Place

Ok, so this blog is for my cousin’s husband Aaron. Every time we talk about Tahoe he has asked me if I’ve ever been to Sam’s Place and I always replied no. Then he would proceed to say that it’s one of his all time favorite bars or even places on earth. WOW!! I guess you can say that he has some fond memories of Sam’s Place. So last week my mom was up visiting again and we finally went to go experience one of the happiest places on earth AKA Sam’s Place. We had lunch there and Aaron wasn’t lying about this place it’s one of those cool dive bars with really good food. It’s pretty much a local hang out. So Aaron I risked life and limb taking pictures in there for you. Pretty much all the local construction workers that were having lunch looked like that wanted to kick my @$$ for taking photos in there. So if you are ever in South Lake Tahoe you should go to Sam’s Place for some food and adult beverages.

Yesterday I was honored to photograph Arlynn and Lucas’s wedding over at Vista Point on the Nevada side of South Lake Tahoe. I’ve been looking forward to this wedding ever since I did their engagement shoot down in Manhattan Beach in July. The wedding ceremony at Vista Point was breath taking. After that we went down to Zephyr Cove to take some more photos, which turned out stunning. They were one of those couples that were so easy to photograph. On Monday I was thrilled to photograph Anna and Jeremy’s intimate wedding at Emerald Bay. It was just them and their kids and their new 6 week old baby. They had a family friend there to watch the baby during the ceremony. We met the wedding officials at the Millers Outpost parking lot to do all of the paper work and finger printing which was pretty cool. Just a side note, I think South Lake Tahoe has one of the last Millers Outposts in the U.S. It was pretty surreal to be there as they got married at one of the most beautiful places on earth. After the ceremony was over and we were done taking photos there, we headed down to the Tallac Historical site to take some more photos by the beach and around Talllac. Lacey and Louis

Yesterday Lacey and Louis got married in front of their close family and friends. The wedding was small and very beautiful. It was held at a private house in Lake Tahoe with absolutely breath taking views of the Lake. You could definitely see the love that the two of them had for each other. I had the greatest time photographing the wedding. Everyone was super nice which made for an excellent wedding day. I also had a blast shooting with Denise Neufeld. On Wednesday I had the privilege of photographing the Arcara Family at Sand Harbor, which is on the east side of Lake Tahoe. The Arcara Family traveled all the way out here from New Jersey. My Mom Visits Tahoe

Last week my Mom and Sheba the wonder dog/wolf come up to Tahoe to visit and relax. Well not really relax it seems like we were always out doing something. I showed her around to some of the local spots and some of touristy spots too. My mom got a new kayak so I took her to some cool lakes and of course the “BIG BLUE” Lake Tahoe. So here are some photos of the adventures. All of the photos were taken on point & shoot cameras. I just got a new point & shoot camera and it rocks, it’s the Canon Power Shot SD 850 IS.

I photographed my best friends daughter the last day I was down in So Cal. She had just performed in a dance recital. So my buddy and his wife wanted some photos taken of her in the dance outfit. We went out to a secret spot and had a photo shoot. Donavon showed off her dance moves and hammed it up for the camera. I had such a good time. Kids that age are so easy to photograph. Yesterday I helped out the ladies over at Sierra Weddings and photographed a small wedding for them over at Lakeside beach. It was Sharon and Randy’s big day. They shared it with their family and close friends. It was one of those picture prefect days to get married on one of the many beaches of Lake Tahoe.

Angora Fire

Last week I was down in So Cal golfing with my dad and visiting my mom. So on Sunday afternoon I found out that South Lake Tahoe was on fire. Luckily for me the fire was on the other side of town. So yesterday I drove home into the smoke. When I got into the Carson Valley the smoke was so thick it reminded me of a foggy day at the beach. It was also very smokey down at lake level, so I knew with all the smoke that the sunset would be a good one and it was. This is the only down side to living in the mountains. Knowing that at any time a huge wildfire could erupt and destroy whatever is in its path. If you want to know more about the Angora fire here is a link the the local paper.

Tour de Nez

Yesterday I went down to Reno to the Tour de Nez to watch some road bike racing and take some photos. It’s been over a year since I’ve photographed any type of a sport and I had a great time doing it again! For some of you that don’t know that’s how I got into photography in the first place, by taking photos of snowboarders and other sports. They had a masters race, which is for guys over 40 years of age that were probably pro at one point in their life. It was fun to watch them they were really fast and it was cool to be so close to the action. Then for the real deal, they had a pro race and I thought that the masters were fast; well the pros just strait nuked the course! They had the Columbia national team there. One guy from the Discovery Channel Team was also there and lots of other smaller pro teams from the U.S. So here are some photos that I took yesterday.

Green False Hellebore

On Tuesday I went up to the Woods Lake area to mess around with my camera. There are tons of patches of green false hellebore everywhere up there right now. So I decide to take a bunch of detail shots of these plants and I was very happy that I did. I love some of the shots that I came away with. Photo geek time: all of the photos were take with my 50mm f/1.2 set at f/1.2 and my 100mm f/2.8 macro lens set at f/2.8.

So yesterday I went and rode my mountain bike on the same stretch of the Tahoe Rim Trail that I tried riding over a month ago. Back then there was a ton of snow on the trail and now it's snow free and a blast to ride! It's a great single-track trail with epic views of the lake. As you can see by looking at the photos that I took with my point and shoot camera.

That little water way going back towards the mountains is Emerald Bay.

Weird Weather

Ok so on Monday the high temperature up here in Tahoe was about 70 degrees. Well yesterday a storm rolled in and the high was around 50 degrees. Well I woke up this morning to a light dusting of snow!!!!! Yep that’s right snow in June. That isn’t uncommon though for this area. But it’s just the drastic change from the nice 70-degree temps to it snowing.

The past couple of days up here in Tahoe we’ve had thunderstorms. Well today it rained for about 40 minutes or so. When I left my place to go to the bank I noticed that there was a spot fire that was started by lighting. It’s probably about a mile or so across the valley from me. Luckily it rained a lot before it started and is still raining off and on. If it was dry lighting I think the whole forest would be on fire and I would be evacuated for sure. The picture was taken off of my side deck.

Woods Lake Brook Trout

I love fishing Woods Lake because they have a ton of brook trout in that lake. It seems like every time I go there I catch one. Here are more pictures that I took with my 50mm f/1.2 of the only fish I caught that afternoon. Don’t worry the little guy lived after I was done with my fish photo shoot I unhooked him and he swam free.

Yesterday I went up to Woods Lake to do some fishing and photo exploring. I end up doing more photo exploring than fishing. Part of the road was closed to go up to the lake, so now one was up there. I messed around for about an hour taking pictures with my 50mm f/1.2 lens set at f/1.2 the whole time. For you non-photo geeks that equals very little is in focus in the picture. When I first started doing landscape photography I shot everything to be tack sharp. So over the last year or so I’ve been shooting my nature stuff with very little depth of field and I’ve been loving the results! Here are a couple shots and there’s more to come.

Snow Flower

Yesterday while I was mountain biking I found these little guys right off the side of the trail. They are the California snow flower or also called the California snow plant. Usually every year I get to see a couple of them blooming in the forest. They are such a bright red that they are hard to miss. Here are a couple of photos that I took with my point & shoot camera.

Back in Lake Arrowhead for Mother's Day

I was back in Lake Arrowhead last weekend for Mother's Day. I had a really good time with my mom. We actually celebrated on Saturday so we didn't have to fight with all the other moms for dinner seats on Sunday. Also on Saturday morning I got to shoot a family portrait session with the Mullendore family. I had a good time during the shoot and their little daughter did too, but her fun took place at the playground. So here are some of the pictures.

Mac Mail + Verizon=Bull

All right to all of you out there that use my doug@dougmiranda.com email I can’t use it anymore. I know that’s not that many of you, which is good. I have Verizon Internet and they won’t let you use a Mac account on their servers because they want to regulate incoming spam and make you get an email account through them, which is bull. So today I tried to switch Internet providers and at Charter they said since my electric bill is included in my rent the owners would have to set up the account for me, which is bull. If I owned rentals there’s no way I would be setting up Internet accounts for my renters. So I solved the problem and got a gmail account through google, which is supposed to be great or a lot better then hotmail. So pretty much I will be just using the new gmail account for my business. It's Alive!!!!!!!!!!

Yeaaaaa! My website is finally alive on the information highway aka the Internet. Ok I was going to post these early, but I’ve been so busy with getting my website done which is finally finished. Yeaaaaaaa!!!! It won’t be live on the web until Sunday or Monday. I will let everybody know when it does go live. These photos are from a wedding I shot with Tim and Cheryl Halberg in Mill Valley, Ca on April 21. Megan and Christo had a beautiful wedding, even though it rained. So here are some of the pics that I shot.

Tim is so good now he has a personal assistant to hold an umbrella wherever he goes.

Golden Gate Bridge

On April 21 I was in Mill Valley shooting a wedding with Tim and Cheryl Halberg ,which is just north of the Golden Gate Bridge. The next day before I went back up to LakeTahoe. I went down to Stanford to check out a photo exhibit that they had going on there. So I got to go across the Golden Gate Bridge and take some photos up on the hill before I went across. I went about ¼ of the way on to the bridge and then there were all these people standing on one side. Pretty much everybody was holding hands. I am sure they were protesting something and there were more walking down the bridge so that they would have people holding hands from one side of the bridge to the other. Let me tell you there were a lot people. When I got to the other side that’s where the first person was, crazy. So here are some of the pictures, note I am a professional photographer so I’ve had training in driving with one hand and taking pictures with the other.

On Sunday I rode my road bike from South Lake Tahoe to Meeks Bay. It was a great ride it was 33.55 miles round trip about half way to Meeks Bay you get to ride by Emerald Bay which is so beautiful. So here are some pic’s that I snapped with my point and shoot camera of Emerald Bay.

Ok, I ‘am sorry about not blogging for a month or so. My life has been stuck on crazy mode with moving up here to Tahoe and trying to start my biz and get my website up and running. Which should only be a few days away if all goes well. Too not having the Internet for 2 weeks makes it kind of hard to blog. I have been riding my road bike up here a lot and the roads up here are great. Well yesterday I went on a mountain bike ride on the Tahoe Rim Trail. I live right by one of the trailheads so I thought it would be fun. Wrong, it would probably be fun if there were no snow on it. I rode about 2.25 miles out on it and after walking about a mile of it with my bike in the snow and it only getting worse I finally turned around and went home. It will probably be more fun in a month from now with no snow. Here are some pic’s from my point & shoot camera of the ride/snow trek.

Ashlynn

I photographed two of my good friends little girl the day before I left for Tahoe. Her name is Ashlynn; she is such a beautiful little girl. I had a blast watching her play in her room and through out the house. She loves books, which is a good thing, but she also loves dad’s cell phone. I don’t know how good that is for her parents being 13 months old, a girl and already loving the phone. Yikes! Here are a few from the session.
